Glossary

Why A Glossary?

I use some terms that some people might not understand. By using the ctrl + f function (or whatever the Apple "find" command is), you can find the term you are confused about. This list will be added to as necessary.

  • ATSA: Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (educational organization dedicated to sound research and policies that prevent sexual abuse)
  • CSA: Child Sexual Abuse
  • CSEM: Child Sexual Exploitation Material, another more accurate term for child pornography
  • CSOM: Center for Sex Offender Management, a program organized by the United States Department of Justice
  • D2L: Darkness To Light (victim and educational advocacy organization specializing in prevention training)
  • Ephebophilia/Ephebophile: A sexual attraction to children just after they finish puberty, generally 15-19 years old, or someone with said attraction.
  • Hebephilia/Hebephile: A sexual attraction to children who are in the midst of puberty, generally 11-14 years old, or someone with said attraction.
  • MAP/MAPs: Minor Attracted Person or Persons, a catch-all acronym for people with sexual attractions to minors.
  • NCMEC: National Center for Missing and Exploited Children
  • Paraphile: Someone with a sexual disorder involving unusual or otherwise atypical sexual interests
  • Pedophilia/Pedophile: A sexual attraction to children prior to hitting puberty, generally 12 and younger, or someone with said attraction.
  • Potential abuser: Someone who is at-risk for sexually abusing a child, but has not yet done so.
  • SORNA: Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, a catch-all term for laws aimed at sexual offenders
  • SO: Sex Offender
  • Suspected abuser: Someone who is suspected of sexually abusing a child, but has not been convicted by the legal system.
